War is fundamental. War is everywhere. War is male. War is performative. But whose play is on?
The performers don’t always know they are part of the performance or even that they are at war. They drink Coca-Cola “the drink that fights back!”; or so the images left behind tell us with no regards that Coca-Colas main expansion was through World War II. The wear uniforms to school that men wear
to war. They get attacked by men wearing the same uniform. A uniform worn by men to fight other men wearing the same uniform at the behest of men in suits.
War has been and to this day is the main way to expand influence and explain who belongs where. Wars are not taifun´s or tsunamis. They are man-made horrors to redraw fantasy maps that men made for the purpose of having “more”, of having the confirmation to finally be the strongest, the biggest, the longest empire/kingdom/existence.
War exists for a world of male performers that can never get enough. Images of War are everywhere women are crying men are fighting children are dying. As naturally as the sun rises and sets again as if it weren’t a performance of power to change the borders of nations. But war and then soldiers aren´t natural occurrences. War exists because soldiers are sent out to fight them. War is intricate. It starts before the actual fight. It starts in the head. The enemy needs to be constructed. He can’t be us. He needs to be them.
So, there is a need for images, to define what “we” look like; what “they” don´t look like. What “we” act like, what “they” don’t act like.
But the “we” is just a bunch of men in suits.
