Niklas Viola

Referencing Walther Benjamins ideas of mass production, photography´s relationship with the immediate world and Aura. This photographic installation interrogates patterns of image-making around the axis of ownership, power dynamics between subject and object and the absence of a physical presence in contemporary image-making practices.
The work consist of three pieces;

- a handmade photography, showing the artists self-portrait in 1s and 0s, which over the course of 20 hours was painted in accordance to the order read out loud by a machine.

- 200 A.I. generated mug shots of the artist which are then printed on film and have been handprinted in the dark room.

- a program solely coded for the express purpose to introduce random numbers in the code of the digital files of the A.I. - Images.
The code leads to visual bugs and the eventual overall whitening into which the visual dissolves.

ヴァルター・ベンヤミンの大量生産に関する思想、写真と目の前にある世界との関係、そして「アウラ」についての考察を参照している。

この写真インスタレーションは、所有を軸としたイメージ制作のパターン、主体と客体のあいだにある権力関係、そして現代のイメージ制作における物理的な存在の不在を問い直す。

本作品は、以下の3つの作品から構成されている。

1と0によって表現されたアーティストの自画像を写した手作業による写真作品。機械が読み上げる順序に従って、20時間をかけて描かれた。

AIが生成したアーティストのマグショット200点。それらをフィルムにプリントし、暗室で手作業によって焼き付けている。

AI画像のデジタルファイルのコードに乱数を導入することだけを目的として、独自にコーディングされたプログラム。そのコードによって視覚的なバグが生じ、最終的にはイメージ全体が白化し、ビジュアルが溶解していく。
